Canva for Android, listed on Google Play as Canva: AI Photo and Video Editor, combines a photo editor, video editor, collage maker, logo maker and a large template library in one app. It has more than 500 million installs and requires Android 8.0 or newer. The version available in September 2026 is 2.378.0.

The latest release notes say the team freshened up the app with new content and minor bug fixes while working on bigger features. Most of the meaningful change comes from AI tools added across Canva. Some of those tools are reserved for Canva Pro, so it helps to know what the free plan already includes, and video exports in particular need some planning around storage and connection speed.

AI tools now built into Canva

Canva’s Magic features are the headline. Text to Image creates pictures from a written prompt, Magic Design builds designs from an image you upload, Magic Edit lets you swap or add elements in a photo, and Magic Eraser removes unwanted objects. A Translate tool converts a design’s text into more than 100 languages, and video captions can be translated the same way.

The video editor has gained features aimed at social content, the kind of short clips many people otherwise edit in CapCut. Beat Sync lines up edits with music automatically, and you can apply effects such as slow motion and reverse playback, add subtitles, or place a new background behind green screen footage. One-tap animations and page transitions help turn still designs into short videos.

What you get free and what needs Canva Pro

The free plan includes editing tools without ads or watermarks, 5GB of cloud storage, real-time collaboration and a content library that the listing describes as more than 2 million royalty-free images, thousands of videos, over 25,000 pre-licensed audio tracks and more than 500 fonts and effects. That covers many social posts, flyers, presentations and resumes.

Canva Pro adds premium templates and stock content, the one-click Background Remover, Magic Resize for photos and videos, Brand Hub for storing logos, fonts and colors, and a Scheduler for planning posts on Instagram and Facebook. Pricing depends on your region and is shown in the app before you subscribe, and a Play Store subscription is managed from Google Play.

Storage, exports and privacy

Designs are saved to your Canva account in the cloud, so they count toward your cloud storage rather than your phone. Exports are different: downloaded images and videos are saved to your device and can fill space quickly, especially long video projects. Move finished exports to a backup service such as Google Photos and clear the app cache in Android settings if storage runs low.

Canva typically asks for access to photos and media when you upload images or save designs, and uses the camera or microphone only if you add them to a project. Uploaded files are kept in your account, so delete uploads you no longer need. When collaborating in real time, check who has edit access before adding personal photos.

Blank previews and stalled exports

Because templates, fonts and AI tools load from Canva’s servers, a slow connection is the most frequent cause of blank previews or stalled exports. Check your connection, then force stop the app and clear its cache. Long videos may export more reliably on Wi-Fi. If a Magic feature is missing, it may not be included in your plan or offered in your region yet.

Older phones near the Android 8.0 minimum can struggle with large projects and video editing. Closing other apps, reducing the number of pages or layers in a design and keeping the app updated all help.
